Mae’s Garden
3.5’h x 5.5’w, 2023
Coming out of two very disrupted school years, the WHCIS wanted to re-build a sense of community as they returned to in-person classes. During the pandemic, a beloved pre-K student named Mae passed away after a double lung transplant. Mae’s family was looking for a way to honor her memory, and the school began a project to dedicate the outdoor classroom space to her. I led a group of Mae’s family, friends and teachers in designing a mosaic in her memory, and then facilitated the approximately 800 WHCIS students in creating the mosaic to hang in the garden. The piece was dedicated by the school and Mae’s family in May of 2022.
